Sinusitis and Herbal Remedies

Many people within the United States of America and all over the world are looking for ways to relieve their sinusitis problems. They are looking to improve their sinus drainage and therefore avert a sinus infection. One of the ways to relieve sinus problems is to use herbal remedies.

Echinacea is an herb that is known to kill viruses that cause respiratory problems. It is available as a capsule but you should not take if you are allergic to the family of plants that include ragweed. Although ginger is not known to specifically reduce sinus problems, it has been used for many years in the treatment of headaches. It can help with sinus problems because it has anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger can be taken as a tea or in the form of a capsule. The herb goldenseal can also be used for the treatment of sinusitis and has been shown by many studies to help reduce congestion and to improve general health. It can fight infections and contains compounds similar to steroids in which it is able to help reduce inflammation within the body. Another herb that can be used in a tea is lemon balm. This herb that has been used for the treatment of bad breath and can help to fight off viruses and bacteria, making it a good natural remedy for sinusitis. Lemon balm leaves can be purchased for use in teas. All sinus sufferers need to do is to steep them in hot water for about 10 minutes, remove the leaves by straining and then drink the tea.

Herbs are not the only natural remedy that sinus sufferers can try to reduce their sinus problems. It is believed that diet plays a part in sinusitis by promoting the formation of mucus. Some of these foods include dairy foods, oranges, sugar and wheat. Eliminating them from your diet might reduce sinus problems. Other natural remedies include the use of nasal washouts. A mixture of salt and water can be used to rinse out sinus cavities. Some sinus sufferers have also found a reduction in their sinus problems by using a neti pot which is a better way to rinse out sinuses. Some people have also found that using a vaporizer or vapor rubs during the night relieve their dry mucus membranes and reverse the effects of the dry air on their nasal cavities.
